Plot to unseat Buhari thickens

Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, his then vice and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, on Sunday, January 6, held a crucial meeting in Lagos.

It was gathered that the meeting which lasted for three hours followed a recent call by the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation on the General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd)-led National Peace Committee, the United Nations and the world in general against the appointment of Amina Zakari as the head of the collation of presidential election result.

Source privy to the meeting said: “It was a strategy meeting towards 2019 and how to give the country a fresh direction.”

The source added that the political bigwigs during the meeting discussed issues on national development.

“The discussion is not about South-west alone; it was a broad-based political arrangement that covers every part of Nigeria. It was a national thing. The basic concern is about how to give Nigeria a new lease of life by enthroning a leadership that will give the citizenry better lives," the source said.

The party says Buhari’s desperation for self-succession has become a major threat to Nigeria's national unity, stability and peaceful electoral process.

PDP further alleged that the Buhari presidency has been overheating the polity with its recent actions.
